SARS is a branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the highest investigative department of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF). It was created to combat violent crimes like armed robbery and kidnapping, yet is responsible for widespread torture, extortion and abuse of the very citizens it is meant to protect.
As #EndSARS continue to dominate Twitter Trends, Johnthewriter takes a look at some innocent Nigerians whose lives were cut short by the people who ought to protect them.
1. Kolade Johnson
Kolade Johnson was watching a football match between Liverpool vs Spurs when some SARS operatives stormed the football viewing center shooting sporadically. Kolade Johnson was hit by a bullet from a trigger happy SARS officer.
2. Kazeem Tiyamiyu
Kazeem Tiyamiyu was a Nigerian footballer and assistant captain of Remo Stars FC. He was reportedly killed by SARS officials in Ogun State.
3. Aboy Life of Ginjah
In 2017, a young man simply identified as 'Aboy Life of Ginjah' was allegedly shot dead by operatives of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) in Lagos on suspicion of being a 'Yahoo Boy'.
According to reports, he refused to open his phone for inspection. He refused and and tried to run and was shot deaf.
4. Daniel Ikeaguchi, aka Sleek
In September 2020, Sleek, an upcoming musician, was shot dead by alleged SARS operatives in Elelenwo area of Port Harcourt. His death sparked a wave of protests for two days.

5. Unknown Man In Ughelli
This is the latest case of SARS killing that have caused outrage on social media with the hash tag #EndSARS.
According to Daily Post, a team of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) allegedly killed a young man on Saturday, Oct 3rd 2020.The sad incident happened in front of Wetland Hotel, Ughelli in Delta State. A viral video shows them speeding off in the victim’s vehicle – a white Lexus SUV. This incident has led to an unrest in Ughelli, Delta State.
If you have ever never encountered SARS, Let me show you a typical scenario:
''Where are you coming from? Where are you going to? How did you have the money to buy this phone? In fact, open it. That laptop in the bag, open it immediately. Where is the receipt of the Laptop?
Who gave you money to buy the Laptop and what are you using it for? Look at your hair! dreadlock. Look at your hand! Tatoo! Look at your eyes red! You have been smoking Igbo! In fact, sit down on the floor you criminal!
You won’t leave here until you show me all the documents of the laptop and you open your phone''.
That's a typical example of what Nigerians face everyday from SARS.
